Without the action of the Holy Spirit, many Christians believe that humans could gain no understanding of God or Jesus.Verses 4, 5, and 6 gave a powerful description of the unity Christians can experience in Christ.

Salvation through spiritĬhristians believe that the Holy Spirit helps Christians towards salvation as it is God’s force and inspiration at work in the world. A person could not be faithful and claim to love God, and at the same time ignore God’s laws.

This may seem contradictory, but many Christians would say that it is faith in God that leads believers to live good lives. He writes: Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? (1 Corinthians 6:9) This means that they can enter Heaven and be in the presence of God.Īlthough salvation is possible through Christ, St Paul also points out that people must follow God’s laws in order to be saved. So, even though human beings are sinful, Christians believe that Jesus’ death and resurrection allowed human souls to be saved from eternal punishment. St Paul explains this in the Bible: for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23)

Ephesians 2:8–9Ĭhristianity teaches that God’s grace gives humans the opportunity for salvation through the incarnation and sacrifice of Jesus, the Son of God. Quote For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.
